Book choice:
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Sherman Alexie
Before reading
This book was selected as part of my book club (yay book club, shout out to all the book club girls!). We’re meeting this week to discuss this book, so I waited until close to the meeting to read it. In the past I’ve read it as soon as the book is chosen, and forgotten many of the details by the time we meet… oops! Hopefully I’ll be better this time!
The book appears on quite a few reading lists, and is praised for the drawings that accompany the story. It’s a cool concept, though it may not translate very well to my Kindle.
Alexie’s ‘diary’ has overwhelmingly positive reviews. I hate myself a little for even thinking this, but I can’t help wondering if it’s more a reflection of the content than the actual writing/story. As far as I can tell, Indians (Native Americans) are underrepresented in mainstream literature, so I really hope that these aren’t ‘bandwagon’ reviews, wherein people are giving positive ratings because they think they should. That said, Sherman Alexie is a pretty popular author regardless. I’ve not yet read anything else by him, so with any luck I’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Note: I’m going to save my review until after my book club meeting, at which point I’ll perhaps include some things we discussed and other opinions!

Ha I thought you were going to do the whole review, was waiting for people to plagiarize!
